Predám knihu The Museum of things left behindSeni Glaister, vyd. Fourth Estate London 2015, 424 strán, v angličtine. Kniha je vo výbornom stave. The novel is set within the fictional land of Vallerosa: an idyllic Italian place that is small enough to pass unnoticed by the rest of the world, but large enough to merit its own President. The story starts when Vallerosa’s Postman makes an extraordinary discovery in his postbag: an aerogramme with stamps bearing the profile of Her Majesty the Queen. He pedals breathlessly all the way to Parliament Hall, battling through layers of officialdom so that he might hand such an important communication to the President himself. With great pride and excitement, the President instructs his people to make ‘planned but spontaneous’ preparations for a state visit from a VIP, and he is mortified when off the train steps Lizzie, a British, rucksack carrying student.
popis: In 1909, the maverick American retailer Harry Gordon Selfridge opened the West End of London´s first dedicated department store to a blaze of glorious publicity - the culmination of the largest advertising campaign ever mounted in the British press.
No one understood the sex appeal of shopping better than Selfridge, and his fervent belief in consumerism as both sensual and theatrical entertainment ensured the success of his eponymous Oxford Street store.
But the ´showman of shopping´ would eventually be undone by an insatiable addiction to gambling, extravagant mansions and even more extravagant mistresses. Thirty years after building his revolutionary store, Selfridge was ousted in a boardroom coup. The self-made millionaire died virtually penniless in 1947.
Set against the heady growth of twentieth century consumerism, Lindy Woodhead explores the rise and fall of the retail prince whose fusion of shopping and seduction has left a lasting legacy, symbolised by the towering Ionic columns of Selfridges.autor/autori: Woodhead, Lindyvydal: Profile, 2012číslo produktu: 10187011dodanie: v SR: od 2 €, pri objednávkach cez obooks.sk osobný odber 2x Bratislava (0 €), na 500+ PickUp pointoch (od 2 €) ; v ČR: dodanie od 75 Kč a osobný odber v 2000+ miestach; v EU a svet: platba vopred, poštovné podľa váhypoznámka: Fotografia je ilustračný obrázok, použitý produkt môže vykazovať známky menšieho, alebo väčšieho použitia, nemusí mať prebal ak ho mal pri výrobe, prílohy a odnímateľné časti.
